“A woman can preach, a woman can work, a woman can fight, a woman can build, can rule, can conquer, can destroy — just as much as a man can.”
I love this quote. But there is an important element left out of it, that I would like to add. A glaring omission to rectify.
A woman can rock just as much as a man can.
Something I think so many seem to forget. For my part, I believe these are the women who busted down the most doors, opened the most eyes, ignited the most fires under every girl’s and a whole lot of boy’s butts of any woman to enter the boys club, cock rock arena, whatever you choose to call it. These 4 women representing hard rock, folk and straight out of the chest rock, punk and new wave, did it all, did it best, and made no fucking apologies for remaining so completely feminine, even with sweat dripping down their necks.
There is something so powerful about a woman doing a /quintessential man’s thing/ in the most authentic and awe-inspiring way, that is so totally female. Not a woman doing it to prove she is as good as a man, or better than a man, but a woman whose talent speaks for itself and proves those facts true without her even saying a word about it. Having a voice and knowing how to use it, always using it to further the human condition, not just other women’s. Being transcendent and making girls and boys alike want to do what you do, and do it with heart, these are the women who have shaped music for me.
Long Live the Women of Rock. Ever may they reign.
